A person purportedly wanted by Interpol has been arrested in Belize. He is the former secretary of the Public Service in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Gonzalo Abelardo Herrera Castilla. Along with this former official of the administration of former governor Felix Gonzalez Canto and also arrested was, Emilio Villanueva Chan, the former private secretary of the former president of the Great Commission of the State Congress, Pedro Flota.
The arrests were carried out by customs officers. According to press reports, both former officers were manning a boat without registration and had in their possession 14,288 US dollars, one thousand 28 Belizean dollars and 86 quetzales. In July 2017, Herrera Castilla and Víctor Hugo Loyola Corona, a former Attorney General of the State, obtained separate appeals against charges for irregular performance of the public administration, in relation to the VIP Saesa case. It seems that that coincides with him attempting to process Belizean citizenship.
Belize keeps attracting people of ill-repute. Publicity usually attracts who you are wooing. It seems that that might just be the target of the MO of the present administration. We keep getting reports of fraud and fraudsters from international repute ending here in our little jewel.
We love to go across to Mexico to stretch dollar that is being overtaxed by the UDP but we are not welcoming of them when they want to hide and run. This goes for fugitive Mexican or Americans or maybe Belizeans who return to Belize for sanctuary are being bad in another country.
As we are used to Mr. Herrera Castilla has been released and will now but her might still be in trouble due to his being wanted by Interpol.
Let justice take its course.
