The sheer volume of material that there is on him and just what a colossal figure he is in the Jazz World will make it difficult to condense my ideas for this piece. But here goes!

Perhaps I can start with a bit of trivia that I’ve known for donkey’s years - I share the same birthday as Herbie - April 12th. Herbie was born in 1940, which, if we do the math, makes him 68 years young this year 2008.

I decided to feature Dinah because recently I’ve been listening to quite a bit of her music. She is absolutely inimitable, and the story of her life has all the joy, sorrow, laughter, success and tragedy that any human being could pack into a mere 39 years.

Actually, the reason I’ve been rediscovering Lady Dinah is because I heard an incredible version of “I Let A Song Go Out of My Heart” by her on Pure Jazz/Sirius Satellite Radio (where naturally my favored channels are Smooth Jazz and Pure Jazz as they are called).

First I wish to acknowledge with gratitude Evan X Hyde and Krem as well as Rene Villanueva Sr. and LOVE FM for affording me the opportunity to DJ for quite a number of years now - KREM for eight plus years and now LOVE for just about five.
