Samuel Johnson in his masterpiece, `The History of Rasallas’ counseled that “…integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.”

On the other hand John T. Rourke in his epic on contemporary political issues, `Taking Sides I’ warns that any publication that “…debates vital issues is valuable and necessary… It is important to recognize that politics is usually not a subject of absolute rights and absolute wrongs and of easy policy choices. We (writers) have a responsibility to study the issues thoroughly, and we should be careful to study all sides of the debates.”

UDP attempts to mislead on the gun incident Print E-mail

It is not unbelievable that the UDP and its Belize City Council have tried to ignore the gun issue and instead have begun issuing threats in their newspaper, the El Guardian, and calling people names. Those are all meant to divert the people’s attention from the meat and potatoes of the gun story. In fact, they went overboard last week. They made a very important concession in their headline story last week while trying to put their spin on it and make it appear that Sharole Saldivar and I deceived the Mayor and Barrow about the firearm being a Council weapon and the Councillor not having a licence for it. Let us keep this under the microscope and look at the hard facts again because the more the UDP try to respond the more serious the gun incident becomes for Dean Barrow.

This is the million dollar question and it is the one that the voters of Belize ought to get an answer to from the UDP. In fact, in the meeting the senior managers had with the UDP’s Central Executive on Thursday, 12th July 2007, Manuel Esquivel appeared to have answered the question for the party when, clearly rattled, he told the six senior managers in a quite irate tone that the Councilors are the boss of the Mayor.

As the days draw closer when Belizeans will go to the polls to make their choice of leaders, we wish to make a special appeal. It will be a time to decide who will carry each individual constituency onward in the match towards further development. Politics should be about a personal experience with your Area Representative. During these perilous times Belizeans should beware.

UDP AND POLITICAL VIOLENCE Print E-mail

Written by Nelita Bennett
Thursday, 25 October 2007
From the rhetoric coming from the UDP camp- day after day- it is becoming clear that Belizeans should brace up for serious political violence. Not only should we brace for it, but we should also do our best to prevent it, by ensuring that we are not used to fulfill the evil machinations of the UDP. This evil is made bold and clear by the kind of rhetoric sponsored by Dean Barrow, and executed by Joe and Juliet.
