If you want to find
out why there is so much crime in Belize, listen to Dean Barrow and the
UDP. Listen to Sedi Elrington and the Wave radio, and you will hear a
familiar, foul language. They are bent on causing havoc in Belize as a
means of getting into government. They insist that young Black people
have to commit crimes: “You see,” they will often say, “if the
politicians are committing this and that, what do you expect young
people to do but to pick up a gun and rob the ‘Chinney’ shop.” Or you
may possibly hear Sedi allude on his “…Expose...” Talk-show that,
“Things are so hard out here. Tell me, if a man cannot feed his family
what do you expect him to do but to pick up a gun and rob somebody. Are
you surprised that they are robbing the “Chiney” man?”

When a lawyer accepts
a case and represents his client in court, he is committed to defend
and represent his client’s position no matter what. If the client is
right or wrong is not the point. The lawyer will use any means to use
the laws, rationalize the position and twist the facts so that the
judge can rule in his favor. That seems to be their job.
