BARROW IGNORING THE MAJORITY Print E-mail

On February 7, 2008 there were two elections. The UDP has been celebrating for a month the results of one of the elections, effectively shutting down the country and declaring in their party propaganda sheet that for the UDP cronies, “the good times [will] roll.” Political victimization is in full force, as not even ferry operators and first-time land owners have been spared the wrath of Dean Barrow and his diabolical cabinet.

Say what you will, the Peoples’ United Party is a party of change and renewal.  Parties that do not change die, and the PUP is a living movement not a historical monument.  As our world changes so too must the party.  If we don’t then we become of no use to the world.  Our principles cease being principles and just ossify into dogma.

We do not change to forget our principles but to fulfill them.  We do not change to lose our identity but to keep our relevance.  For change is an important part of regaining the nation’s trust.

Woodrow Wilson took the United States of America into the 20th century with a challenge to make the world safe for democracy.

Mr. Wilson was preaching to the converted as far as the Commonwealth Caribbean (including Belize) was (and is) concerned.  Governments of the people, by the people and for the people with all its human imperfections have brought significant progress to humanity.

STATEMENT BY PARTY LEADER SAID MUSA

FEBRUARY 13, 2008

What’s Past is Prologue

We meet today to begin a new chapter.  We have to study the past to understand the present.  But to understand the future we have to learn the lessons of the past.  What’s Past is Prologue.  We have to move on.

Yes, this is a time of sober reflection and self-examination.  Not a post-mortem.  The body is not dead.  We suffered a terrible defeat at the polls.  But over 40% of the electorate kept the faith in the PUP and another 25% did not vote.  So all is not lost.  You win some.  You lose some.  And throughout its history, our party has demonstrated that we know how to win and we know how to bounce back.

PM Addresses Nation

After traveling and engaging with people all over Belize through villages and towns from the Hondo in the Sarstoon, we have seen tremendous sustained development taking place across the country from North to South and East to West.

We know that agricultural production is on the increase.  Investment in tourism in dramatic and the unemployment rate has fallen from 14% in 1998 to an average of 8-9%.
