Belize City, April 23rd 2008 - This Friday, April 25th, the Barrow Administration will propose a series of constitutional changes packaged as their “reform agenda” at a meeting of the House of Representatives. However, a closer look at the proposals will reveal that they fail to represent any kind of true reform or deal with the real bread and butter issues faced by Belizeans today, and are merely cosmetic.

The Barrow Administration will propose to 1. prescribe a three-term limit for holders of the office of the Prime Minister, 2. provide for a recall of elected representatives, 3. continue the UDP agenda of the Empowered Senate, and 4. amend Chapter 4 of the Belize Constitution.

In the Toledo District village leaders are up in arms after the recently elected UDP area representative Hon. Juan Coy, in mimicking the dictatorial style of his party leader, is attacking village councils that were elected by the people a year ago.

It seems there is a dictator in Toledo.
