There is a
hidden gem, hiding in the bush on the Belize River a few miles outside Scotland
Halfmoon Village. A hidden gem certainly defines the remote M & H River
Camp & Ranch situated at the end of an overgrown road that looks a lot like
a picado cut out of the jungle. Driving down it one wouldn’t be surprised to
see a brontosaurus lumber by or Tarzan swing through the trees; its that
primordial.

Hole-in-the-Wall Chic
There are several
criteria used to pick destinations in this “Off the Beaten Track” series. Obscurity
is one criterion, naturally. But then there are levels of and different kinds
of obscurity. Some of the resorts covered are little known due to the
uniqueness of location, (Fantasy Point); some are chosen because of their total
anonymity, (Flores Villas) and still others are selected based on the inimitability
of style like this week’s selection, Lee Side Rooms on Caye Caulker.

Languid Times on the Lagoon
There are a
whole lot of undiscovered, undeveloped tourist spots in the Corozal District.
It’s a district that is still in its fledgling stage of tourism growth. Nonetheless, there are hidden treasures
galore nestled all along the 15 miles of the Progresso Lagoon. Spectacular
sights, unexcavated Mayan sites and cultural melting pots are there ready to be
discovered all through the lagoon and coastal areas of our northernmost
district.
