Belize
City, Mon. Oct. 20th, 2008 - This morning, a very upset
Chairman of the Lucky Strike Village Council and the United Community Producers
Association (UCPA), Oscar Pollard, visited the BELIZE TIMES to vent his anger
over a situation he considers, “childish”.
There are certain things in Belize that must be
removed from the “political game,” especially those things that have a positive
impact on our young people. With crime running rampant and with most of the
murders being committed by our young people, it behooves me why in the world
the Ministry of Education and especially the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr.
David Leacock, a former teacher for many years would be playing games with an
international program like Junior Achievement. Well, that is exactly what is
happening at this moment. Mister Leacock is playing some serious games with an
international program that has helped to mould better young men and women in
Belize.
Cayo
District, Thurs., Oct. 23, 2008 - Days of constant
rain in the southern and western parts of the country and run off from flooded
rivers in El Peten, Guatemala swelled the Macal River and Mopan River in the
Cayo District over the weekend, sparking widespread flooding and prompting
hundreds of people to flee as waters covered roads and in some cases left only
the roofs of houses visible.
