The United Democratic Party’s promise to allow the economy
to grow by six percent is totally unrealistic and it is just another hoax to
fool the people in their desperate grab for power.
The global economic growth rate is expected to slow down this year. Global GDP growth was on average 3.6 percent in 2007. Despite Belize’s robust economy, because of the stimulation in investment caused by the PUP government, experts forecast a 4 percent growth, if current policies continue. With a change in government, economic growth is expected to fall considerably. This could result in the loss of thousands of jobs and a shrinking of the economy. The UDP will be forced to retrench public officers, collapse the economy and return to an IMF Stand- by arrangement. Its first order of business will be a national witch hunt, taking away land from legitimate land owners and to derail the economic train which has been fuelled by the PUP’s growth economics. There will be a short-lived euphoria, in the unlikely event that they win the national election. There will be, in a short time, to gnawing and knocking of teeth. |
