The recent UDP appointments have raised eyebrows. There’s something fishy going on.

The UDP is keeping it all in the family and the appointments have mostly been awarded to well-connected UDPs and their sisters and brothers, cousins and uncles and aunts.

Let’s break it down. Manuel Esquivel was appointed a senior advisor with Ministerial salary. His wife Kathy Esquivel was then appointed CEO of the AID’s Commission.

John Saldivar was appointed Minister of Public Service, Elections and Boundaries and Governance. His sister Rosalie Saldivar was named CEO in the Ministry of Housing.

The always controversial Doug Singh was appointed a Senator and Leader of Government Business in the Senate. His brother, also always controversial, was appointed the CEO in the Ministry of Tourism.

David Gibson was given the CEO in the Ministry of Natural Resources. His cousin was removed from the Belize Archives and Research and appointed CEO in the Ministry of Public Services.

Another couple of cousins are the CEO in the Ministry of Public Utilities, former UDP Senator and City Council advisor Ambrose Tillett and the CEO in the Ministry of Youth, Dwight Tillett.

Other than being part of the UDP family, can PM Barrow please tell the people of Belize what makes these individuals qualified for the job they have been given without consulting the people of Belize?
