It’s been just about a month now since Patrick Faber assumed responsibility as Minister of Education and in that short space of time, Faber has wasted no time in putting his modus operandi on full and open display and without any apologies to anyone.

Aided and abetted by his willing servant, CEO David Leacock, Faber has already “disposed” of several employees of the Ministry of Education that include the Acting Systems Administrator/Web Service Technician, the Action Plan Coordinator and Education Officers among others. The termination of these employees has been so discreet that one would have to consider Faber to be acting “out of character” as over the years he has earned the undisputed title of “Mr. Loud Mouth”, always bawling.

Though it would serve Faber and his CEO well and certainly the nation of Belize, nobody expects them to continue the magnificent work that the former Minister of Education, Hon. Francis Fonseca, had done in Education since 2003. Notwithstanding, one would expect that the “rookie” Minister would embark on his own “plan” for Education. Much to everyone’s dismay, though, Faber and his CEO have made it their first priority issue to review the “personal files” of every single person employed at the Ministry of Education and to carry out their mission of “victimization”. But no one should be the least bit surprised or shocked as the actions of Faber and his CEO are that of the “UDP Way”. And then, they tell us to “Imagine the Possibilities”? If one thing is for sure, it is that we need not “Imagine” the consequences for, like the people who have been terminated from the Ministry of Education and those who are sure to suffer a similar fate, we shall “feel” the consequences.

Now, it was hilarious to see on the television this “rookie” Minister on the compound of Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico (ESTM) in the Corozal District “mediating” (as the TV news reported) a meeting between the Principal of that institution and the teachers. Trying to appear somewhat as a “hero”, Faber told the TV reporter that he has ordered a “team of investigators” to go into ESTM and to “conduct an investigation”. That “made for TV” stuff is obvious hogwash.

As evidenced by the very remarks (captured on TV) made by a group of parents that confronted Faber as he and his driver sat in their vehicle, the Principal of ESTM, Mrs. Juanita Lucas, could very well be the next professional to be victimized by the UDP.

Any impartial person in the northern communities and even the Government and people of Mexico who donated ESTM to the Government and people of Belize and they will tell you that Mrs. Juanita Lucas single-handedly TRANSFORMED that institution, infrastructurally, academically, and in every other crucial way to make it a respectable high school.

Politics is now guiding education in the country of Belize and the UDP wants to destroy a model school and a model principal. This, indeed, is a sad thing.

There are two lessons that the Honourable Faber must learn and learn fast. First, Sir Faber, is that a good leader doesn’t micro-manage. Second, unlike you, the Honourable Francis Fonseca would have NEVER disrespected a concerned group of parents by talking to them while sitting comfortably in his vehicle while they were out in the rain. You should be ashamed for doing this.

Finally, you have claimed yourself on the television that you are the “great mediator” but let it be known that since you sat in that “honourable chair” in Belmopan at the Ministry of Education, you have really been the “great Terminator”. Patrick Faber – Minister of Education or Minister of Termination?
