WE COULD…WE SHOULD PRIME MINISTER

The Prime Minister of Belize must be taking Belizeans for fools as he says all the good things, makes the right sounds but fall short every time with his actions. We are yet waiting for the doing Mr. Barrow.

Barrow’s favorite words appear to be “we could, we should” on oil, on the rising cost of living, but he always falls short in saying what he is GOING to do and WHEN about every single thing.

Barrow talks about a promise to subsidizing agriculture but speaks vaguely of what the Minister of Agriculture can and should do. He talks about oil and what BNE and a windfall tax can do, but never offers specific.

And when Barrow talks about taking off GST on medicine and some items, that’s just it – talk – a feel good trick nothing more.

The Belizean people have seen what Barrow’s new government was up to in the past working session in the House of Representatives and it wasn’t to take off GST on anything, not to reduce the cost of oil, diesel or kerosene; nor was it to offer subsidy to Belizean farmers to produce and supply Belizeans with locally grown cheaper foods. No, it was to change the Belizean rights enshrined in our constitution to arrest and jail Belizeans up to a month; it was to change the Representation in the House from 31 back to 29 and to slap the faces of Belizeans on the Referendum of February 7th, saying that the elected senate approved by an overwhelming majority of voters was “bogus” (his exact words).

The thing is this Belizeans, Barrow asked for the job. He got the job. He had more than any body else to prepare. Ten years and as opposition leader he knows what could and what should be done – it’s time to get the message out to PM Barrow: start delivering the goods and stop the talk.

OF THIS & THAT

UDP Minister of State Juan Coy has already disposed of his brand new government vehicle, but it is being kept under the table. Reports are that the vehicle is banged up and can be considered a total write-off to tax payers.

Esquivel, who is an unelected official with ministerial ranking, had his vehicle hit and one Panton over at BTB is Mr. Crash artist on wheels.

Word coming out of Maskall is that Minister of State’s brother-in-law reported that he was beaten up over the weekend by no other than guess who? The Minister’s brother is complaining bitterly to anyone who will listen that he is out of a job and how come his brother can spend 4.5 million – with a little help he may tell it all.

ONLY FOR THE PRIVILEGED

Housing is giving out housing loans just ask Bishop. Or ask Tittieman Flores, who is singing for the UDP all the way to the bank.

With just a few given out under the radar, Housing grants and loans are being distributed but only for the privileged. A whopping four million is reportedly left.

WORD COMING OUT OF CITY HALL

Isn’t it quite interesting to see the mayor of Belize City campaigning in all places, even in Crooked Tree? Ain’t it funny to see her sheltering under Castro, the very same Banak Street Castro (which incidentally may be the only portion of a street paved by this Council at the end of their term)?

The Mayor’s rivals have a more powerful shelter as the PM, Boots and others have made it perfectly clear that Zenaida is a one-term mayor.

Missing in action Councilor Quilter is totally in the dark as he confessed that he didn’t even know that Councilor Esquivel was hired over at the BTB, getting another dip in the tax payer’s trough or that Councilor Willoughby was double dipping with the new NEMO job. What he knows is that Usher now controls the City Council’s stage and rents them back to the City Council, Samuels has Traffic back, and Leila has taken over and is running all the way to the bank with the City Trade License businesses. That’s all he knows, confesses Quilter.

UNSAVORY AVERY

Mr. John Avery, who collected from the National Sports Council under a PUP Government while he was editor of the UDP newspaper, is hiding behind the PUC and giving every wrong reason for declining BEL’s request for tariff recovery. That’s a battle BEL will have to fight.

The truth of the matter is that if the PUP government didn’t have the vision to support investment in alternative sources of energy (Chalillo Dam, Hydro Maya, BELCOGEN, Vaca Dam), the cost of electricity would have been much higher today. With the rising oil prices the cost of energy is too much for BEL, and Avery knows this.

Be careful Belizeans. What’s happening over at the PUC is short term and they know it. Watch when they strike us with a higher rate increase for corporate utility companies.

AND SO…

It is quarter after 11am and one Joe Bradley is just going to work for the City of Belize. While everybody had to be at work from 8am this one yah is strolling along with three checks in his back pocket. Ain’t that shoving up in Belizean faces?
