Belize City, April 29, 2008 - A favorite ingredient of the usual Sunday dinner, chicken,
will cost more for Belizean consumers.
On Monday, the price of chicken increased by 12 cents per pound. For several weeks, the Belize Poultry Association had been predicting an increase in the price of chicken. That increase came into effect on Monday April 28, and now warning signs indicate that the price of eggs could soon shoot up also. With the price of chicken up, the pressure on the pockets of Belizeans also augments. Belizeans are already hit hard with record high prices for diesel, regular gas and premium gas, meanwhile there has been an increase in flour prices, and electricity rates will likely be announced this Friday. All of this under a Government that was elected on the promise that it would reduce the cost of living. |
