Doony's gold Prado being pulled out of Los Lagos lake
Belize District, July 3, 2008 - Popular Belize City businessman Sunil Sadarangani, known to his family, friends and customers as Doony, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital at around 1:30 this morning.

The Belize Times spoke to Officer Commanding the Ladyville Police Station Inspector Calbert Flowers, who told us that at around 1:30 am they received reports of an accident at the Los Lagos Housing Site located on the Northern Highway. They arrived on the scene to find a gold Landcruiser Prado completely submerged in the waters of a lake, right side up. Nobody was inside the vehicle.

According to Flowers, an investigation revealed that at around 1:00am, the Landcruiser Prado, with Sadarangani behind the wheel, plunged into the lake. It is believed that he lost control of the vehicle. It is alleged that less than 15 minutes after, residents were on the scene trying to get him out of the water. Reports are that those who dived into the water first saw Doony struggling to get out of the driver’s side window, which was down only halfway. By the time they managed to force the window down, Flowers told the Belize Times, witnesses claim that Doony was already unconscious.

Those who pulled him out allegedly tried CPR on Doony at the scene, but there were no signs of life. He was then rushed to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Inspector Calbert Flowers told this newspaper that preliminary investigations indicate that Sadarangani was in Corozal earlier in the day, where he planned to open a new business very soon. On his way to Belize City, he allegedly stopped in at Los Lagos to socialize with some friends.

Sadarangani’s licensed firearm and a large quantity of cash were found in the vehicle. While Police are still conducting an intensive investigation, they do not suspect that foul play is involved.

The BELIZE TIMES expresses our sincere condolences to the family of Sunil ‘Doony’ Sadarangani.
