Dear Sir:

As a concerned parent I view with great concern the rampant and haphazard transfer of teachers taking place in the Orange Walk District. These transfers will no doubt affect teachers’ performance, parents, and most of all our innocent children. These transfers coupled with the incompetent District Education Manager, Mr. Daniel Luna, will definitely affect the District’s performance in BJAT, PSE and CSEC.

As soon as the U.D.P. won on February 7, 2008, they embarked on a VICTIMIZATION CAMPAIGN. Teachers were being transferred during the school year, contrary to the Education Board Rules. But the present Government has no regard for law and order or rules and policies.

As the school year is about to begin, teachers are still uncertain as to where they will go as some teachers have gotten two transfer letters in the space of one week. Many schools are getting teachers with no form of TEACHER TRAINING to enter the classroom in September. Many Government schools have new principals with no “PRINCIPAL’S TRAINING OR COURSES IN EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION.” The District Education Manager himself has a degree in psychology and is already showing his incompetence in addressing teachers’ needs.

Let me state the following for the records.

1)            Orange Walk placed first nationally in the 2008 P.S.E.

2)            Orange Walk has placed in the top three in the P.S.E. for the past years.

3)            Orange Walk has one of the highest percentages of trained teachers in the country.

I humbly call on the Unions, NTUCB and Concerned Citizens to stand up against these injustices against our teachers, parents and most importantly our innocent children. Where are the Union Leaders now? Have they been compensated for their previous demonstrations prior to February elections? LET US MAKE A STAND NOW FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR SACRED TRUST, THE CHILDREN OF BELIZE.
