Ministry of

Belmopan.
Ref: Transfers of Teachers in Government
Schools and the dismantling of School Boards
The Belize
National Teachers’ Union expresses its deepest concern and disappointment, and
further condemns the political interference on the transfers of teachers in
government schools and also the dismantling of Government High Schools Boards;
even some whose 2-years term of office were far from complete.
We view
these acts to be retrogressive and counter-productive, in our collective
efforts to continuously reform and address our weakness in the education
system. Furthermore, it undermines the same principles of social justice and
transparency under which your ministry and government has promised to operate.
The Handbook
of Procedures, rule 69 clearly articulates the conditions/guidelines under
which teachers are to be transferred. Rule 34.3 and pages 202-206 of the
Education Handbook 2000 spell out the functions and terms of Office of these
School Boards.
BNTU
condemns these acts and hereby requests immediate corrective actions to these
cases; particularly those teachers who are being transferred without proper
justification. We reiterate our continued commitment to the development of
education based on respect for our Rules and policies and the principles of
social justice and quality education.
We will
continue to be vigilant and look forward to these matters being amicably and
urgently resolved.
Sincerely,
Jaime Panti
National
President |
