Belize City, November 15, 2008 - Defending champions Alberts and the
undefeated Old Technical Rebels rule the over-35 Maxi-basket basketball
competition with 4 wins each, while Old Cemetery posted their 3rd win and
Classic Purex their very 1st win in 3 outings when the competition continued at
the Belize City Center on Sunday.
In Game 1,
Old Cemetery buried the winless Maria Chang gang 48-44. Kevin Siroki drained in
3 treys to lead Old Cemetery with 12pts, Compton Staine added 11pts, Calvin
Tench chipped in 10pts, Leroy Forbes tossed in 9pts and Richard Meighan added 6
pts.
Old Cemetery led from the get go: 14-13 in the
1st quarter, 26-22 at the half time break and 39-30 in the 3rd quarter.
Peter “Paco”
Neal hit 2 treys to lead Maria Chang gang with 13pts, Joe Martinez and Jimmy
Faber scored 11 pts each, Brandon Garcia tossed in 7 pts and Emerson Engleton
dropped in a bucket.
In Game 2 Classic Purex posted their first
win, caging the Orange Walk Eagles 58-41. James Saunders led Classic Purex with
22pts, Calvert Quilter drained in 3 treys to add 13 pts, Greg Williams added
9pts and Julian Murillo and Paul Cassanova followed Quilter’s lead with a trey
each to add 5pts. Purex jumped the Eagles 12-6 in the 1st quarter, 26-14 at the
half, and 37-24 in the 3rd quarter.
The Eagles
came out flat compared to the week before; Floyd Sutherland and Kenneth Dawson
leading with 10pts each, Richard Mark added 8 pts, and Paul Diaz tossed in
5pts, with Carl Westby chipping in 2 buckets.
In Game 3
the Old Technical Rebels continued their winning streak with their 4th back to
back to back to back win, and had the BWS Bulls lassoed and hog-tied for the
54-38 win. Rico Black drained in 4 treys, one per each quarter to lead the
Rebels with 16pts, Doug Penland dropped in 3 treys for 13 pts, Rodney “Sheik”
Armstrong chipped in 9pts, Kano Green was good for 8ps and Alston Hope hit a
trey and a free throw to add 4pts.
The BWS
Bulls were led by Darren Bovell who hit a trey to finish with 11pts, and their
shooting star Charles Ellis scored a miserly 5pts.
In Game 4
the defending champs Alberts also posted their 4th win by running over the
Belmopan Over-35 squad 70-53. Lloyd Leslie hit 2 treys to lead Alberts with
27pts, Vince “Postman” Lamb hit 3 treys for 25 pts, and Charles Armstrong
chipped in 13 pts.
Belmopan’s
Clifford King drained in a trey to lead the capital city crew with 18 pts,
Robert Allen added 2 treys as he tossed in 10pts, Arthur Young added a trey for
7 pts and Clive Sutherland also hit a trey for 5pts, Alfonso Audinett added
6pts and Austin Flores – 4pts. |
