The UDP’s odious “child labor” video hits a new propaganda low. It is despicable and unacceptable. The video ironically embodies exactly the same thing it ostensibly decries-child labor. All the national organizations entrusted with protecting the rights of children should stand up against this. UDP talk is cheap; let them match their campaign against child abuse and child labor with actions. What else is it when a politician uses children to attain his or her own self-serving interests? It is child abuse. This is absurd. Not just that the children are made to appear in a skewered video or a photo shot, but they are forced and cajoled into making abusive statements and false accusation against members of the government which the opposition dreams of deposing. UDP use of innocent children to make nasty political statements and attack their opponents is child abuse. By the way, everyone knows that the external debt of Belize is less than $2Bn. and not $3Bn. as the ad says.

How do we expect these children to grow up with a balanced view of society, governance, and the right to self-determination and responsibility to individual’s convictions? It is unfair to these children that the UDP cannot fight by themselves for themselves. They are also using children to do their dirty job. This should be condemned by all. Under the UDP neither children nor women will be safe or respected.

We have seen the UDP in this low down before. But this is even lower. The NCFC should condemn this blatant act of abuse unequivocally. Even the Youth For the Future should not stand still, as this kind of act makes it difficult later to direct the young people in governance later in life. The Association of Concerned Belizeans should stand up and be truly concerned about Belize and the future of Belizean children. ACB, show your color!

Another telling aspect to the UDP’s misinformation video spot in addition to their clumsy use of children as laborers is the choice of ethnicity the UDP made in casting the children. 90% of the young laborers in the propaganda commercial are of Hispanic descent. That smacks of racism, plain and simple. Rumors of Barrow’s subliminal racism- a serious jones against Spanish- have been wafting in the breezes of yeri-so for decades. Now that “child labor” video commercial gives credence to that yeri-so. For it is an extremely racist statement. It is implying that mostly Spanish force their youth into hard labor. Those citizens of Belize that are of Hispanic descent be wary of Barrow. Be very wary.

Belizeans are watching, and the UDP is showing that it can go to any lengths to get what it wants. Barrow appears to be inferring that he supports people being abused and accused falsely by lying and greedy Joe and Juliet as long as it helps them to win. This is not our idea of democracy. Barrow is desperate, the UDP is desperate. And the media and hosts who have suddenly turned UDP supporters are angry and venomous in their attacks against the government, even for goods being delivered to the poor. These media people hope to be on UDP contract list if they win. Well, all Belizeans now know that they are tree jumpers and flower perchers who sing for money. They neither represent black people nor the poor. But the work must go on to keep Belize free!
