Sand Hill Village, May 2, 2009 - Sand Hill’s Bright Stars posted their first win in a long time when they triumphed over the Reggae Boys from Scotland Half Moon in the 2nd round of the 2009 Harrison Parks cricket competition in Sand Hill village last Saturday.

The Reggae Boys batted first, and the Bright Stars bowlers made speedy work of them, taking the first 2 wickets for 4 runs. Then Steve Moody, of Gwen Liz High School fame, entered to hit 7 sixes for 48 runs!

It was a single flash in the pan as the Bright Star took the next 3 wickets for one run!

The Reggae Boys’ score improved when Ronald Ferguson entered to hit 3 fours for 17 runs and Alvan Stephenson hit 4 fours for 23 runs. Frederick Hendy added 1 six and 1 four for 10 runs before the last wicket fell for zero runs, with Reggae Boys scoring 105 runs all out.

In the Bright Stars’ turn at bat, Elihue Banner hit 3 sixes and 2 fours for 27 runs and Samuel Sukhnandan hit 3 fours for 16 runs before the umpire gave him LBW. Reggae Boys’ Elvis Moody took the next wicket for 1 run and Lawrence Moralez followed to hit 1 six and score 9 runs before he too fell to Elvis Moody’s golden arm.

Reggae Boys’ bowler Alvan Stephens took the next 2 wickets for 1 run, before Ashton Vaccaro entered to hit 1 four and score 6 runs before he fell to  Stephens’ bowling.

Bright Stars’ Kendis Moody entered and held the fort until victory, hitting 4 fours and remaining Not Out. Elvis Moody took his 4th wicket for zero runs, averaging 4 wickets for 26 runs.

Gilbert Seguro, the last remaining batsman, entered to partner with Kendis Moody, batting 2 fours and a string of singles and doubles, and it was “one-one cocoa full a basket” as Seguro also remained Not Out as they took the score to 107 runs for the win.

The Bright Stars will next challenge Sunrise in Lords Bank when the competition continues on Saturday, May 9, while Reggae Boys take on the defending champs, Brilliant in Crooked Tree.
