Jacinto
Pinelo drew first blood for the island squad, and they held on to the 1-zip
advantage up to the half time break. When play resumed in the 2nd half,
Hilberto Caliz soon made it 2-zip when he converted a penalty in the 63rd
minute after the Nizhee defense goofed.
Unfortunately
for the Dolphins, their defense was equally inept, which also cost them a
penalty, and Nizhee sweeper Antonio Castillo converted for the visitors’ 1st
goal in the 67th minute.
After 3
back to back losses, it looked like it might be the Dolphins 1st win, until
Sergio Gilharry drilled home the visitors’ 2nd goal in the 83rd minute to tie
the ball game at 2-2, and this remained the score at the final whistle.
Defending
RFG cup champs Ilagulei of Dangriga had even worse luck when they visited the
2007 champs Hankook Verdes at the Norman Broaster Stadium on Wednesday night.
Verdes
took the game to Ilagulei from the getgo, with the first strike coming off the
feet of Danny Jimenez in the 27th minute. Marlon Meza joined the party with a
2nd goal in the 28th minute; then Danny was back for another bite of the apple
in the 30th minute. Little big brother Richard Jimenez said save some for me as
he too joined the party to add a 4th goal in the 40th minute.
Ilaguelei
was not totally toothless in this encounter, as Elroy Kuylen scored one goal
for the visitors in the 43rd minute, but it was small consolation as Verdes
took a 4-1 lead into the half time break.
In fact
it would be Ilagulei’s only consolation goal, as Richard Jimenez came back for
another bite of the apple in the 49th minute for a 5-1 lead, until Marlon Meza
made it 6-1 in the 52nd minute.
Veteran
striker Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburgh, lately of the Superleague’s Tex Mar
Boys, joined the party with a 7th goal in the 53rd minute, but Ilagulei’s
humiliation was not yet over as Verdes’ Amin August blasted in an 8th goal in
the 93rd minute in injury time.
Verdes
were scheduled to visit Tafari at the Union field in Punta Gorda on Sunday, but
the entire sporting community has been laid siege by the threat of the virulent
swine flu and all BPFL games scheduled for the weekend were cancelled at the
Ministry of Health’s recommendation to avoid mass gatherings to reduce the
chance of vector transmission should any case of the swine flu crop up among
our population. |
