Belize City, Tues. May 5, 2009 - Since the age of 17, Kenroy
Williams, better known as Ken Dawg, has been writing his own music. Today, ten
years later, he is proud to say that he has released his Trilogy, relaunching
his first two CD’s “The Streets raised me”, and “4 Da love of Da Game Disc 1”,
along with his new CD, “4 Da Love of Da Game Disc 2”.
In an
interview with the BELIZE TIMES, Ken Dawg told us exactly what inspired him to
not only write, but to sing and produce his songs. When he was very young, he
recalls listening to his aunt sing a song from Biggie Smalls. The way she sang
and moved her body to the beat made him think- “One day I want to have somebody
singing and rocking to my song like that.”
And so he
started writing; plunging, venturing into his dreams to make it a reality. The
lyrics of his songs are based on personal life experiences and things he has
observed happening in the world, said Ken Dawg. He flushes them out in the form
of hip-hop and rap, which is what he likes singing.
No one
was happier than he was when he launched his first CD. The name “The Streets
raised me” literally speaks for itself, Ken Dawg told us. He was raised by the
streets, and it has made him fully conscious and aware of the problems and
everyday struggles people face.
The
Streets raised me CD has 14 songs and a bonus track. It features songs such as
Baby Don’t Cry, which encourages females in abusive relationships to be strong
and not to stay in those kinds of relationships. Guns in Belize, for which Ken
Dawg has released a video, directed by Nigel Freeman, is also featured on the
CD.
The
second CD Disc 1, has 11 songs. There is one “Stay in School” which encourages
children to stay in school. It encourages children to stay in school and study
until they make it through primary, secondary and tertiary level. Another song,
“Only 1 can win” talks of how you should try to be the best at whatever you do.
As long as you give it your best, you are a winner, even though only one can
really win. “No pity” is a song that was written at a time when crime was at an
all time high in Belize. “No pity in the city, no pity in the streets………….”
The third
CD is a family CD, said Ken Dawg. It features songs for mom, “Dedicated to
Mom”, songs for dad, “Daddy’s Girl”, which features Tanya Carter and songs for
the ladies, “Sweets”. He has already done recording for that song to be placed
on video and that track will be released in June. He is also working on a video
for Daddy’s Girl.
He is
signed with Blood Hound Records, which was a record group started by Mosco, who
designed the record label with a map of Belize behind it. The record group has
four signed artists who sing many kinds of music from Reggaeton to R&B
Souls.
Ken Dawg
says that they do birthday parties, weddings, and any such social gatherings.
The fee depends on the event, he added.
They love singing and entertaining and always make sure to keep the
organizer in mind when coming up with cost price.
Another
of his reasons for releasing this CD was because he wants it to be a strong
reminder of who he was. The life he lived and what he had hoped for- community
wise and life wise. His mother left to the United States a long time ago and he
doesn’t really have a relationship with his father who lives in Orange Walk, so
having music which he wrote would allow her to listen and know more about him.
The CD’s
will be available countrywide, but are presently available at Record Shack,
Venus or by calling Ken Dawg at 604-2964. Purchasing them at the music outlets
will cost $15, while they’ll only cost $10 each from him. That CD will come
along with a signed and autographed poster. Add as favourites (15) | Views: 2126 | Print | E-mail
