The
Lady Jaguars handed the Atlantic Bank Renegades their 2nd consecutive loss in
as many outings with a 3-set win on Tuesday evening. The Lady Jaguars’ Thara
Blanco and Jasmine Anderson received the ball and set the plays for Esther
Middleton, Shantel Arnold and Tichelle Solis spike with a vengeance as they
took the first set 25-17 and the 2nd set 25-10. The Renegades made a real fight
of the 3rd set as Vanessa Lynch hammered in some left-handed spikes through the
Jaguars’ attempts to block, Shanika Arnold and Shamera Usher scooped up saves
and kept the ball in play for Melissa Vanzie and Gina Requena to renew their
attacks. Even without their star hitter and blocker Babsy Cadle, the Jaguars
were a force to reckon with. Shantel Arnold displayed unparalleled athleticism,
getting up the vertical to hammer kills almost straight down to the gaps in the
Renegades defense. They prevailed in the 3rd set 25-17.
The
Renegades had fared no better last Thursday when they fell to the defending
champs, the BH Stars, also in 3 sets: 25-16, 25-13 and 25-18.
The BH
stars had also won over the defending female sub-champs, the lady Jaguars in a
hard-fought 5–set duel: The BH Stars won the 1st set 25-17 led by Shelmadine Cacho
and Sherlene Johnson’s hammering kills, but the Jaguars made a fight of the
next 2 sets winning 25-17 and 25-23. BH Stars’ captain Lupita Quan steadied her
squad to recover and win the 4th set; 25-15 and they outlasted the Jaguars in
the 5th set 15-9.
The SQ
Stars also won over the Baby Jaguars in 2 sets in the junior under-19
competition on Saturday afternoon. Judy Hoare and Crysel Gabourel led the Stars
to win 25-22 and 25-23.
The
Police posted a 2-set win over the Belmopan Police in the firms competition on
Tuesday. Japhet Young and Efrain Nazario led the Belize City Police attack
supported by Alfonso Navarro and Myric Caliz. Jane and Bobby Usher dug up saves
and set the ball for renewed attacks as they won the 1st set 27-25. The
Belmopan police rallied behind Edward Cayetano and Sgt. Lawrence Humes’ spike
attacks as Inaldy Cardona and Sheena Gillett scooped up returns to set the ball
for counterattacks, but the city police won the 2nd set and match 25-23.
Last
Saturday the Teachers picked up an easy win in the firms competition when
Belize Telemedia defaulted on their scheduled match. This followed the
Teachers’ 2-set win against the defending sub-champs FirstCaribbean Investment
Bank (FCIB) on Thursday: 25-23 and 26-24.
The
Scorpions continue to lead the senior men’s competition on Saturday with a 4
set win over the Jaguars, who won the 1st set 25-22, but the scorpions rallied
to win the next 3 sets 25-12, 25-18 and 25-20.
The
Rebels won their 3rd back to back to back win as they upset Mirab in 5 sets.
Mirab won the 1st set 25-15; then the Rebels took the next 2 sets 25-22 and
25-22. Mirab recovered to tie the match at 2-2 when they won the 4th set 25-15,
before the Rebels won the 5th set 15-13.
The
Rebels had also upset the Scorpions last Thursday, winning the 1st set 25-16.
The Scorpions came back to win the 2nd set 25-23, then Rebels won the 3rd set
25-15 and the 4th: 27-25. The Rebels brooked no opposition in their 3 set win
over the Jaguars on Tuesday: 25-22, 25-12 and 25-22. Add as favourites (28) | Views: 2673 | Print | E-mail
