The BH Stars won Game 1 of the senior female volleyball championship finals while Team 313 won Game 1 of the interoffice firms’ finals and the Scorpions won Game 1 of the men’s finals held by the Belize Volleyball Association at the Belize City Center this past week.

 The defending firms’ champions, Team 313 won over First Caribbean Diamonds in Game 1 of the finals on Tuesday by outlasting the Teachers in three sets on Saturday. Nolan Michael, Patrick Bennett and Babsy Cadle led Team 313’s attack to finish plays set by Thara Blanco and Tanesha Encalada while Kareem Michael received and volleyed the ball to renew their attacks as they took the first set 25-14 to win the second set 25-15 and prevailed in the third set 23-21.

Wallace Tillett, Albert Humes and Alex Evans led the F.C.I.B. counterattack, while Derek Miller, Gina Requena and Irene Hernandez served and received the ball to set plays to make a real fight of the 2nd set, but Team 313 won through 25-19. FCIB had won through to the finals by eliminating the Teachers in Game 3 of the semifinal series last Saturday: 25-16, 21-25 and 15-12. FCIB had won Game 2 on Thursday: 30-28 and 25-23.

Team 313 had eliminated DC-9 Kauss in Wednesday’s semifinals 15-25, 25-15 and 23-21.

The Baby Jaguars won Game 3 of the U-20 junior female finals over the SCA Stars last Thursday: 25-18 and 25-23 to win the 2009 championship.

Defending senior female champs, BH Stars dominated their arch-rivals, the Lady Jaguars in 5 sets, with Shirlene Johnson, Shelmadine Cacho and Kim Williams leading the attack to win the first set 25-21. Lupita Quan and Precilia Hoare served with effect to win the 2nd set: 25-22. The lady jaguars rallied behind spike attacks from Babsy Cadle, Esther Middleton and Shantel Arnold to win the 3rd set 25-23 and Thara Blanco, Tichelle Solis and Tanesha Encalada received and set the ball to win the 4th set: 25-17. Marika Zuniga and Emma Hoare helped the BH Stars win the 5th set 15-11.

The Scorpions’ Arvid Arnold, Germaine Audinett, Eian and Jamal Galvez dispatched their challengers Mirab in 3 sets in Game 1 of the senior men’s finals: 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18. The Scorpions had eliminated the Jaguars last Wednesday: 25-15, 25-22 and 25-23 in the semifinals. Mirab’s Larry Bennett, Gillian Smith, Brian Tillett and Ernest Broaster had eliminated the Rebels last Thursday: 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23.
