Jamil Flowers, 29, a farmer of
Biscayne Village who the Police reported they busted with a SA AR 15 assault
rifle and 4 rounds of .223 calibre ammunition, was charged with keeping an
unlicensed firearm and ammunition when he appeared in the #7 Magistrate’s Court
on Monday, August 17. Flowers was first charged with keeping a prohibited
firearm but the charge was changed because the rifle did not fall into the
category of prohibited firearm.
Flowers
pled not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Edd P. Usher explained to him that
the Court could not offer him bail because of the nature of the offences. He
remanded Flowers into custody until September 17. Flowers was represented by
attorney Dickie Bradley.
The incident occurred early Friday
morning, August 14 in Biscayne. The Police reported that when they searched an
enclosed section of the verandah of a bungalow house they found the rifle and
ammunition. According to the Police, Flowers was living in the section of the
house where the firearm and ammunition were found.
His aunt, Olive Dawson, 76, the
owner of the house was in the main part of the house at the time. She was
detained by the Police. But the Police decided not to charge her after they
reviewed the circumstances of the case at the request of Dickie Bradley. Ms.
Dawson resides in the United States. She came to Belize to attend a funeral.
