Belize Defence Force recruit Robert Stevens and Elsa Lucas won the annual BDF marathon as part of the BDF Annual Family Sports Day activities at Price Barracks on Saturday. Guatemalan Carlos Corzo and BDF Sgt. Delcie Martinez won the annual Henry Usher half-marathon, while 17-year-old Denroy Nembhard and Erla Smith won the annual 10km run.

BDF’s 21-year-old recruit Robert Stevens clocked 3:06:40 on the tough 26 mile race from Hattieville on the Western Highway, through Belize City and 9 miles up the Northern Highway to finish at Price Barracks, winning the $800 1st prize and trophy.

Marvin Hope, a 43-year-old businessman from Austin, Texas, clocked 3:07:36 to win the $700 2nd prize. Hope has been living in the USA for the past 25 years, returning home to visit each year. He is the younger brother of Love FM morning show host Carmen Barrow and has competed in the Austin marathon for the past 12 years.

BDF 21-year-old recruit Justin Baptist of Burrell Boom village clocked 3:15:40 to win the $600 3rd prize; Domingo Cal won the $500 4th prize in 3:18:20, and 35-year-old Daniel Harris won the $400 5th prize in 3:25:20.

Thirty two year old Elsa Lucas of Belize City clocked 4:42:58 in the female race to win the $800 1st prize and trophy; while 21-year-old BDF Pvt. Cynthia Salazar of San Ignacio, Cayo district, clocked 4:56:52 to win the $700.00 2nd prize. 

Thirty six-year-old Guatemalan Carlos Corzo clocked 1:22:59 in the Henry Usher men’s half-marathon, from the Belize City Council compound on the Western highway, through Belize City to the BDF headquarters at Price Barracks to win the $400 1st prize and trophy. BDF 33-year-old Sgt. Victor Martin clocked 1:24:09 to win the $300 2nd prize. Louis Haulze, a 43 year-old BML sanitation worker and 4 time winner of the first 4 half-marathons, clocked 1:31:04 to win the $200 3rd prize. Dennis Pop clocked 1:33:49 to win the $150 4th prize while Ramon Coc ran 1:37:12 to win the $100 5th prize.   

Sgt. Delcie Martinez had won the Henry Usher half marathon in 2007 and repeated as champion this year to win the $400 1st prize and trophy. 2nd Lt. Monique Godoy, 21, from Ladyville, won the $300 2nd prize, and 21-year-old Pvt. Danna Ramos won the $200 3rd prize and trophy. Kathlyn Tillett, 61, clocked 2:58:12 to win the $150 4th prize.  

 

Ladyville Tech’s 17-year-old Denroy Nembhard left the field eating dust as he clocked 38:41 in the 10km  to win the $200 1st prize.  Sherwin Gallego clocked 41:47 to win the $150 2nd prize and Tyrone Cox ran 43:59 to win the $100 3rd prize. Allison Trapp pulled in 4th in 44:40 to win the $75 4th prize and Faustino Coc clocked 45:04 to win the $50 5th prize.

   Erla Smith, 24, from Lucky Strike village, clocked 53:45 on the 10km run to win the $200 1st prize, BATSUB’s Sgt. Macfarlane, 29, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne clocked 54:41 to win the $150 2nd prize and 15-year-old SCA 3rd former Aidan Palacio clocked 1:05:00 to win the $100 3rd  prize. Teresita Grajalez clocked 1:05:20 to win the $75 4th prize.

2. What were the actual distances run?

Was wondering if the distances that were run were actual Marathon/Half Marathon distances. And if so, who verify's that they are.
