How much more…?(Pablo Marin)
And certainly, under his tenure there have been the
most reported cases of death by negligence and lack of equipment in the history
of Belize’s public health system. But I’m reasonably sure you won’t find those
achievements on any one of Pablo’s billboards. It upset me beyond reason when
this morning a woman called into the morning show very distraught. See, one of
her relatives died last week, and when they tried to take the body to the
morgue at the Cayo Hospital, they were denied entry. Why, you may ask! Well, there
isn’t any electricity at the Cayo Hospital. According to reports, there isn’t
even any equipment at the Cayo Hospital. But wait, wasn’t there a ribbon
cutting not too long ago with a smiling Pablo Marin? Yeah, there was, but it
was typical UDP politicking – all glitter and no substance. According to the
woman who called in, they tried to take the body to the Western Regional
Hospital, but that morgue was full. Then they tried to take the body to the
Dangriga Hospital, but that morgue was full too. So was the morgue at the KHMH.
Finally, they decided to just keep the body at home. This is just plain UNACCEPTABLE. Take the politics out of it – Minister Pablo Marin is
a moron who is woefully inadequate for a critical portfolio like health – end
of story!
A cruel joke… (Barrow Holding His Head)
The media and the public had been complaining for
some time that the UDP had stopped issuing Cabinet Briefings on issues
discussed at that high level…and after one journalist asked in writing, the
briefings started coming a few weeks ago. But shoot, GOB might as well take
them the hell back, cause if what on the paper is what is really discussed in
those meetings, then it’s confirmed – we’re far up that proverbial creek
without a paddle. See, this week there’s that little pesky issue of a back to
school crisis, where children cannot access education because their parents
cannot afford to send them to school. Then there’s the escalating health
crisis, with newborns dying because of negligence and lack of basic resources
in the public health system. Then there’s that BTL thing – like where are we
going to get the money to pay for BTL and how are we going to restore investor
confidence. Then, of course, there’s that rising cost of living thing, since
poor Belizeans can’t afford to put food on the table. Oh, almost forgot,
there’s that tourism thing, where resorts are closing down and sending home
employees because revenues are way down and they can’t afford to keep their
doors open. And we can’t leave out the fuel thing, since GOB does have the
power to lower their take on fuel to alleviate suffering in the pockets of
Belizeans. And just to cut a long story short, there are the respective crises
in the banana, sugar and citrus industries. I’m sure I left something
out…Anyway, the point of the matter is this – did Barrow and his Cabinet
discuss any of those things? Well no, they didn’t. Seems the issues of pressing
concern to the Cabinet, at least according to their briefing, was a Draft
Agreement between the Government of Belize and the Government of Israel on Visa
Waiver requirements for holders of Diplomatic, Official/Service and
Ordinary/National Passports. And then Cabinet moved on to the oh so important
discussion of possible locations for an international basketball facility and
bus terminal. And of course, what would a crucial Cabinet discussion be without
a discussion of the St. George Caye outing. Is our government for real? Have
they so lost touch with what are the pressing issues out here? Man, really, the
joke is on us, and it’s a cruel one, a cruel one indeed..!
Barrow & Krooman (Pictures of
Krooman Lagoon)
Just a little over a month ago, during the Krooman Lagoon debacle, the
Prime Minister of this nation proclaimed that in Cabinet it had been decided
that 9.7 acres in a reserve given to Mr. Jack Charles by the UDP would be taken
away, since it had been granted in error. According to the honourable Barrow, all
development in the area was ordered to an immediate halt. Well, it looks like
businessman Jack Charles did not watch that particular newscast, or did not get
the memo sent to him, because the development has been going ahead full steam. So
where does that leave us now, after all the hullabaloo and public outcry which
resulted in Government backing down in the first place? Well, it leaves us
exactly where we are, with a government which can talk the talk but walks the
walk selectively. It would be interesting to hear what Mr. Barrow. Mr. Vega and
Mr. Faber would have to say today if asked about the Krooman Lagoon. More than
likely Barrow would claim that he never said that the development should cease,
Vega would probably say that since he lives in Orange Walk, he couldn’t be
expected to know that development had continued, and Faber…well, we have no
idea what Faber would say, since he spoke so passionately about all that land
being used to provide housing to residents of Collet.
KREM/Barrow Love Fest (Barrow and
Mose on Krem)
Except for the absence of thousands of people, Prime Minister’s
appearance on KREM this week had all the love and camaraderie of the old PUP
Love Fests…remember those? Man, it would be easy to visualize Mose and his
buddy Dean sipping Moet out of crystal champagne flutes during the breaks. See,
Love FM is usually accused of powdering the PM during his frequent appearance
on that show, but they took second place this week (can anyone say cha-ching
and advertising dollars?). Whatever happened to the hard questions? The PM is
being given a free pass from the media, but hell, that doesn’t mean we have to
like it.
BEL watch out… (Lyn Young on 7 archives)
The PM said something extremely interesting on KREM in response to a
posed question from Mose. What the man said was this – ‘the amount of people
who have come to me to say BEL next is overwhelming.’ If the warning bells
aren’t going off over at the electrical utility company, then they better get
those earplugs out quick. That comment had all the earmarks of a set play, and
speaking about warning bells…you all hear any at the Port, or at the Airport?
Juliet still nasty… (Juliet
Thimbriel)
Juliet’s been off our radar for a while, but not cause she’s any less
nasty or any more attractive or any less stupid…she’s just become less
important, that’s all. But this week she does deserve mention for being
absolutely hideous and petty and chancey. See, when the UDP wanted to get into
power, Juliet was the one on the radio telling poor Belizeans that the UDP
would always be there for them. Now that the UDP is in power, Juliet spends a
great deal of her time criticizing those same poor people and making them look
small because they come to her to ask for a little financial assistance. Every
fat fowl has its Sunday, Juliet, and you won’t get away with what you’ve been
doing. You can take that to the bank and stash it away with the other money you
grabbed away from poor taxpayers. Add as favourites (21) | Views: 1092 | Print | E-mail
