History was made on the 24th day of August, 2009, when Belize’s Prime Minister publicly confessed that he is nothing but a low-down, two-faced hypocrite.  In the House of Representatives, Barrow glorified the fact that he was able to take Ashcroft’s money in one hand while stabbing him in the back with the other.

That Dean Barrow is a man of no scruples is nothing new to us.  As leader of the opposition, he went on record as saying that he had no problem representing Michael Ashcroft so long as he was being “handsomely” paid.  But those days of brown-nosing Ashcroft came to a screeching halt on Monday.

As Barrow began to realize that he was going down in history as the most nepotistic Prime Minister ever, having done absolutely nothing for the people of Belize, he knew that he had to pull a rabbit out of his magic hat.   Having turned his back on the unions, public servants, doctors, the business community, foreign investors and the masses of Belizean people, Dean Barrow was in desperate need of a legacy boost.

Following Barrow’s announcement in the House on Monday, the UDPs felt alive.  They felt victorious, if only for a day.  In less than 24 hours their little bubble of victory would suffer a violent and unexpected death.  At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, news surfaced that Dean Barrow had appointed – drum roll please – you guessed it, his son Anwar and his ex-wife Lois to BTL’s Board of Directors.  With this latest act of hand-picked family cronyism, this one-day hero had sealed his legacy as a nepotistic zero.

The same UDP’s that felt alive were now left with a sour, foul taste in their mouths.   Once again, their leader proved to them that he has no faith in anyone but himself and his family.   That very morning the nation watched as Anwar Barrow was sworn into the Senate, only to take his seat in a plush office at BTL a few hours later.   Through it all, Dean Barrow’s attitude remained the same – “No one can stop me – I am king”.

With their jaws left on the floor, more questions than answers began to surface from Barrow’s party faithful.  How will we pay US$300 million for BTL?  Who would buy shares in Telemedia knowing that Barrow was capable of destroying your company?  How much is Lois making?  How much is Anwar making?    Will our phone rates go down?   How much will Lois make when this thing goes to court?

Indeed, as time goes by, there will be many more questions than answers.  But the one thing that we have learnt in all this is that Dean Barrow is not just the two-faced son of a gun he confesses to be.  As we have seen with our very own eyes, Dean Barrow is a five-headed monster that will stop at nothing until he controls our freedom, our businesses, our cherished democracy and our lives.   In news just in, Telemedia is offering a new service to its customers – its called phone-tapping.
