It is safe to say that Barrow, even with all his years in politics, has no experience and would not know his posterior from elbow if he was in Said Musa’s seat right now. One good thing about this latest event is that Dean Oliver was at least in the country when his name sake paid us a visit.

If the implications of a category five hurricane landing especially on Belize City were not serious, the idea of a hurricane named Dean arriving in Belize makes for great political satire. There are stark similarities between the Loser of the Opposition and his name sake, Hurricane Dean. They both have a penchant for causing unease, and a propensity for wreaking havoc. They both huff-and puff and then they are gone. The people of Belize always show resilience. As fast Dean exited, Belizeans were ready to move on with their lives.

The Loser of the Opposition was trying to save face by his call to Love FM yesterday. Barrow’s pathetic call was followed by a call from the much disgusted Mayor of Belize City, who in her usual monotonous diatribe tried to get in on the praise parade. The shameless UDP have maligned Rene Villanueva and called him every derogatory name in the book for having built RSV Limited. They shamelessly turn around now with words of praises. Sly-Dean wasted no time to slide in on the pragmatic and organized recovery process. Today Dean visited with a measly five thousand dollars and some water, issuing instructions that the Government speeds up relief and channel it through his band of dysfunctionals. If Dean was here in previous times when a storm struck he would know that this government does not leave Belizeans to suffer. The party that serves the people endures with the people and jumps up to serve right away.

Dean and Zenaida’s actions before and after the storm amounts to nothing short of crass political prostituting. The disruption of life, and destruction of the properties of our people is not cause for a political competition. If it was, Dean you are almost ten years late.

Five grand is measly. Dean could take a cool million from his party’s coffers and contribute it toward the recovery process. The token ‘praise you, praise you’ call doesn’t cut it at this time. Said has already begun to do what he is supposed to. He has done so time and time again. Done it in 1998 when Mitch threatened and caused damage, in 2000 when Keith landed, in August and October 2001 when Chantal and Iris landed.  

 This is not Said’s first test by destructive Dean, the man should have a blueprint on disaster preparedness, relief and recovery by now. Duncy Dean and Zenaida need not work up a frenzy. This is where you should sit back and take notes, see how it is done. Then run up your mouths on tv and radio. Dean and his nit-picking nay-saying incorrigible party are busy shopping for the next big one or their prospects for the next elections does not look too promising.
