As Belizeans passed by the popular flag monument roundabout this past weekend, they noticed a new sign that had been secretly erected the previous night. Like a thief in the night, they sneaked up on the people and put up the laughingstock billboard. For folks who have been passing by it ever since, it has been the butt of many jokes indeed. Other reactions include being shock, disbelief, while others shake their heads in disgust. Why is Peyrefitte clowning himself? Why is he making a fool of himself with Mr. Barrow? In fact if he had stood alone, it would have been better than standing with Barrow. What does Barrow bring to the table that makes him believe that by the photo show with Dean his chances would increase? Many questions- no answers.

George Price stood for something. And no matter how controversial it may have been, Mr. Goldson stood for something. But as a leader of a party, what does Dean stand for? Maybe he stands for his popular claim, “trust me.” Trust you for what, and because of what? What does Barrow stand for? Now that’s a puzzling brain-teaser! What has he proven? That some folks are fascinated by glitz and glitter.

The people of Belize rejected him and his cohorts twice, and will do it again. He has been given an opportunity through the City Councils to show what he can do. But for all his flaunted intelligence, and that of his “think-tank honchos put together, they cannot even manage dirt. I mean garbage.

Peyrefitte, Freetown Division is not such a large division to make it difficult for us to see you in person. We do not need to see you on television or posing smugly on big billboards to recognize you. It only shows how distant you are and will plan to be from the people. All that is important to you is our votes that will enable you fulfill your childhood ambition of becoming a minister of government.

Politics is about your personal experience; It is about a relationship with your area rep. People of Freetown, what has Peyrefitte done for you lately? Of course it does not take a ton of money to pay a visit or to treat people less arrogantly. But Peyrefitte rather pay a ton of money to set up a monstrous bill board to make a clown of himself than deal with people respectfully.

Bigger they say is better. But in this case, Michael Peyrefitt’s big signboard makes a fool out of him. He does not understand how people think. He can’t even handle one Mrs. Foreman. How can he handle all of us effectively?

Reject Peyrefitte and his cohort laughing down at us from their billboard. UDP is not the answer. Your effective participation in government is the answer! And only the PUP gives you that opportunity to participate.
