CHESTER WILLIAMS WILL DO IT

The Police are in need of a new image, new strategy, a huge dose of community policing, new management and maybe even new uniforms. So bad is their relationship with the citizens right about now.

In the midst of all this comes the good news, and it really is good news – ASP Chester Williams will on the 3rd November take Lydia to be his lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, to love and cherish, for better or worse until death do them part.

News of the wedding has broken lots of hearts.

But love oh love! How sweet, sweet it is “I do love you, with all my heart.

Congratulations to Chester and Lydia. May you both live a long and happy life with plenty children.

ARTHUR SALDIVAR – NEWEST ATTORNEY

One of Belize’s best and brightest will ask the Supreme Court to formerly admit him to the prestigious Bar, become the latest Attorney at Law in the land.

Arthur holds a Bachelor’s degree prior to taking up law studies. He now has two University degrees, in addition to the CLE, from Norman Manley Law School.

Arthur has been a frequent guest on several radio shows and it is hoped he can be coaxed to assist his party by helping out the new dynamic shows Yasser has been masterminding in the onward march to another PUP victory.

We are proud of Arthur’s latest achievements and include his family in our congratulations.

THE BAILEY/DFC REPORT

The Merlene Bailey Martinez “Report” on the DFC hit a road side bomb this week when the Chief Justice on Tuesday granted an injunction to prohibit its publication.

The “Report” was either delivered or to be delivered to the office of the Prime Minister on Tuesday.

The injunction was obtained by former DFC Chairman Glen Godfrey.

The DFC public hearings were an important chapter in government opening itself to its enemies and critics amidst would opposition allegations by the UDP. None of which has been proved. Irregularities, poor judgment and some bad management emerged from the hearings.

Most lawyers and PUP supporters considered Miss Bailey/Martinez’s behavior to be biased and unfair, while UDP’s gloated at her penchant to make statements and disrespect those who appeared at the hearings.

A DOG SHOT A MAN

Open any journalism book and you must likely will find an explanation of what constitutes news with this example:- If a dog bites a man, that is not news. But if a man bites a dog – that is news.

Well this week the media in USA and UK have found news. A dog shot a man. Yap! That’s right, a dog shot a man with a gun.

James Harris, a 37 year American was hunting in Iowa. It is dog accidentally (maybe the dog did it for spite seeing as how white people like to shoot birds and animals for fun) stepped on a loaded gun which discharged hitting Harris in the foot.

Poetic justice.

CREOLE DICTIONARY

Big respect to Sylvana Woods who has finally achieved one of her goals in helping to produce a Kriol Dikshrineri. Respect go out to Dr. Colville Young who has for decades been a pioneer of this peculiar thing called Creole, or Kriol as Sylvana would be more comfortable with.

As for me, I don’t know what to make of a Kriol-Inglish Dikshrineri. The beauty of Creole is that it is unwritten. Is that it is only spoken. Is that it is passed from one generation of Creole to the next with no book, no pen, no paper. It is passed on without any effort. It passes naturally, like water, like air, like thoughts inside the head.

For hundreds of years this special breed of people living in Belize by the name of Creoles have communicated with each other without a dictionary, without a book. They do it in the most articulate and poetic manner. It is poetry of sorts. It is also an open secret and a mystery to the white tribes of the earth. It seems they learn their language by books and dictionaries, maybe it is because it is many of them and they are like the Tower of Babel, confusion will set in if they were not anchored by books and dictionaries.

But we Creoles, our language was like our drums, our gumbays. Only we understood it. Only we could pass it from one generation to the next. Effortless. No books, no dictionary.

As for me, I don’t want my people’s secret to be made bare . I don’t want it to be laid naked. Open up to the world. Especially for the white tribes to penetrate it. It makes us more vulnerable and vulnerable we already are. I want us to have a secret, a mystery of sorts. Something, at least one thing which is peculiarly Creole, peculiarly us. That one thing was our language, the way we talk, the way we poeticized. The way we were we. Now it seems we is no longer going to be we. It seems so to me. It seems like that is the way it is going to be.

RALPH’S INITIATIVE

The high-tech Minister of Police has taken Belize into the future by joining technology with crime fighting. The vision to install eyes around the city is a good idea which has been proven in some other countries to be effective in keeping Cities and neighborhoods safe.

We understand the Minister is serious about giving disadvantaged young people on the southside an opportunity to earn a living and earn while they learn. Over 200 jobs will become available particularly in the much needed area of providing starter homes and low income homes to needy families. This is a fantastic idea to be pursued with vigor, proper planning, proper management and mucho dinero.

We understand the Minister is also considering some further initiatives to improve the quality of policing while at the same time affording adequate safeguards for the rights of the citizens.

NIGERIAN MOVIES

Creoles have fallen in love, head over heels in love with movies out of Africa being sold by Nigerians in Belize. The “Nigerian” movies are available in DVDs and part of their popularity is that it is just like watching ourselves taking part in movies.

These people in Ghana, Nigeria and some other countries in Africa just like we Creoles. Same mannerisms, hand gestures, same features. It’s just like watching ourselves.

VET PUNKS PIT-BULL

An irate dog lover is complaining bitterly, that a well known Doctor C punked his pit-bull. Says the canine lover, he kept calling Doctor C with a sense of urgency explaining his dog has been  bitten by a snake and was showing signs of rapid poison effects. The doctor kept promising he would come, the poor dog was in terrible pain, the poor dog lover kept calling, the poor dog kept crying; the doctor never showed up.

Doctor Deshield saved the day by saving the dog.

It was a dog day afternoon after that.

REECIE POLLARD - SUPERSTAR

Among the many positive things that emerged out of Channel 5’s KTV, is the fact that Belize has lots of talented singers. Tuesday after Tuesday to a packed audience at the Bliss and thousands glued to their TV sets, we all saw quality performances of a very high level. Many of these performances matched what we have been seeing on MTV, BET and VH1.

Any of the semi-finalists could have been the winner, they all were that good.  We give them our kudos.

But it is Reecie Pollard who captured the heart of the country. From the moment she did Tina Turner’s “Whats Love Got To Do With it”, she became the darling of them all. Last night Tuesday 30th Reecie was rewarded for the 1st place and $10,000.00 cash and other rewards.

We particularly want to highlight the lighting and camera works, indeed, camera magic of Rick Romero. This man is at international standard, that’s the general praise of all those who have been glued to their TV sets since Channel 5 KTV in July.

As for Reecie, she is a superstar, girl that’s what you are.

Here is a suggestion – someone who loves artists and has the money to sponsor and promote them should seriously consider getting Reecie, Melonie Gillett and Jazel Pascascio to form a singing group, something like Destiny’s Child or Diana Ross and the Supremes, and let’s get it on.

BBC – 50 NEW CHANNELS

The BBC has announced that it will be introducing 50 new channels worldwide. This will place BBC into 70 nations of the 160 nations in the world. BBC will target Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It has already penetrated the USA where some 58 million households now have BBC America.

TEACHER, TEACHER

A teacher in the 4th form at Catherine’s has been abusing her position by giving students a very one-sided personal opinion about various matters involving the government. Recently, she delved into the Bou Nehra case and saying things she knows nothing of.

WHAT THE HECK

The Monday night news carried one of the weird stories of its kind. No one remembers any such thing ever happening in this country ever. A man broke down the door of a house, attack a teenage boy, fought with him to take off his pants, tried hard to sodomized him. The teenager struggled free and inflicted a chop wound to his attacker but not before his attacker succeeded in causing a wound to the teen’s rare.

What the heck is going on. The devil seems to be let loose across the land.

And then the news went on to report that this vile attacker who would dare to break into a person’s home was allowed to walk out of court on a relatively small bail.

Then the news last week was that a young lady and her child returned to their home and shortly after going to bed two intruders interfere with them. One restraining the minor while the other sick sucker took the woman into the bathroom and raped her.

What the heck is going on?

A BLACK MAN WILL SINK OJ

OJ Simpson escaped jail when top lawyer Johnny Cochran made his famous summation to the jury which included “if the glove don’t fit, you got to acquit”. Black Americans all over the USA were up in glee. White Americans were shown seething with rage.

Recently OJ went to an auction to recover his souvenirs which were stolen from him and were being sold off without his permission. But he took along some persons who apparently took guns. OJ is facing some serious charges.

Now the system got OJ. They got one of the persons, a black man who will testify and sink OJ.

DHL LOST EXAMINATION SCRIPTS

We have seen correspondence in which it was confirmed that examination scripts sent from Belize to Cambridge from twenty students who sat “A” Levels, were lost.

It is not known whether DHL have compensated the twenty students who would have to take the examinations over of whether the scripts missing since November 2006 has eventually located up to February this year.

TREASURE YOUR FRIENDS

“ I keep my friends as misers do their treasure, because of all the things granted us by wisdom, none is greater or better than friendship.”
