It is better to say it as it is. It is better to praise a man while he is alive than later. Several months ago, one would have been very concerned to say this publicly. But now, everyone seems to be saying the same thing: that “David Fonseca was a better mayor.”

The UDP used their evil tongues to run down a man who went about his work doing good things. The UDP orchestrated a virulent campaign of character assassination against him. He cared for the poor, and was ready to take extra risks including using his personal finances to reach out to those in need. He went the extra mile.

David has never been a man of many words. And his enemies have taken advantage of this to run him down unfairly. We Belizeans have to stand up for what we believe in. We cannot let the politics of hate define our decisions. We have seen how poor people have been taken advantage of by the UDP and Zenaida who promised them heaven on earth if they won the City Hall. Now she would rather fire Belizeans from their jobs than give up any of the flights. When David was Mayor, he would send Councilors on such trips for the benefit of all. He gave everyone an opportunity to shine. David employed under the PUP, but Moya has fired under the UDP. Is the slogan not fitting that PUP HIRE, but UDP FIRE?

Let’s stop mistaking gentleness for cowardice. David was a gentleman. He had no private motives. He just went about doing the job for the benefit of all. Conversely Moya acts simply as a shrew with serious anger management problems. If she does not get her way, she is ready to make a spectacle of herself  in public and go fist fighting. Moya is not mayor material.

We have already made that mistake with the violent UDP in 2006. Let’s not repeat another one. Dean Barrow is not Prime Minister material. He is loud mouthed, self-centered, vindictive and confused. Can we afford another failed experiment?

No, we can’t. Let’s stay with the PUP. Let’s all join hands in building a better Belize by participating more in government. Let’s love and respect one another. Let’s acknowledge those who have worked for us and done good.
