With some the phrase, “power to the people” is simply a populace propaganda ploy. But to the People’s United Party, it is a way of life. It is a policy to empower the people. The government of Said Musa and the PUP has done more to empower the people of Belize than any other government has ever been able to do at any time. It has been the passion of the Prime minister in keeping with the party’s philosophy, to empower the youth. He has shown this relentlessly by the formation of different youth groups, including the national Youth For The Future. This organization has taken youth assistance programs to another level. In addition, he has helped form, and supported many other youth organizations.

Under the PUP, self employment was given priority. Belizeans where encouraged to own their own businesses. Training was provided in different forms through the government. Experts have also been called in to assist in expanding this entrepreneurship horizon. Not only have more Belizeans become self employed, many more now aspire to become self employed, and have the know-how to make it work. This is great for Belize, because small businesses and enterprises form the back bone for sustainable economic development. Sometimes being responsible for ones own success is as tasking as it is uncomfortable. But responsible we must be, for responsibility is the custodian of this great freedom we enjoy today.

GET A LIFE

Now the government has gone even further: After many months in planning, Ralph Fonseca has implemented the “Get a life” program that is so far a resounding success. For the naysayers, and partisan minded people, we remind, this program has been going on in different forms in Belize Rural Central. But as a leader who is so passionate about our youth, he decided to nationalize what has worked through his “Great Conversation” program that has been changing lives in BRC. Even so, for all intents and purposes, Belizeans, let us support and participate in what is good, while leaving the politics to UDP politicians. This program is good, let us support it.

Let us remember that the party that empowers you to be yourself, to improve yourself, and to be free while doing so is the party to stay with. The UDP is promising to change all of us into their own image on their own terms. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
