I think the problem we have today is that the PUP government is so bent on pleasing everybody so much that it is hurting itself. And the UDP have crafted their lies so well that they are now able to make many right thinking people get a little confused. But the tide is turning around, and we are seeing better. Straightforwardly, the UDP will not become the next government because it is not basing its campaign on sound issues or proven records. Recently, it has been all about the Novelos loan and Universal. Let’s get it clear people, let’s put it in perspective: It is an acceptable and ethical practice all over the world for governments to step in and help to rescue private companies if their collapse will impact negatively on public good. After all, what are public finances for? Shouldn’t public funds be invested to make sure the citizenry do not suffer unnecessarily? If the fall of a bus company will send the whole nation into disarray- even for one month or two, costing the economy hundreds of millions of dollars in losses- will it not be a reasonable idea if the government steps in with one hundred million dollars to breach a foreseen costlier commotion?

If the collapse of a modern hospital where people such as Dean Barrow and Michael Finnegan have been receiving first class treatment will cost Belizeans hundreds of millions in lost time and revenue in the long run, what should a responsible government do? Step in and rescue it!! We should not be concerned that the money was loaned out, but we should work together with the Prime Minister in his commitment to make sure that those who borrowed pay back.

HAVE ALL UDPs PAID UP THEIR LOANS TO ALL BANKS?

Many Belizeans and businesses in Belize have borrowed money from the Banks and failed. Does that make the banks foolish? Does that make those Belizeans dishonest? The Banks certainly did their diligence, and they asked all the right questions. The borrower was sincere. He or she definitely had the best of intentions, yet it later did not work out.

Are there not many UDPs who have defaulted on their loans even as I write? These UDPs are simply liars!! The Novelos are here with us. They did not get the money and run away. They are trying to make things work!!

Universal Hospital is here with us. If the management has so far failed to make things work the way they hoped, we can’t afford to fail as well.

PRESIDENT BUSH RESCUES PRIVATE COMPANIES AGAIN (USA)

For the many who think we should be getting examples from the said model of democracy - the United States of America, check out the facts. Recently there has been the slump in the housing industry that is threatening the entire economy. The President has stepped in to bail out the industry. The US government has stepped in to bail out manufacturing companies, transportation firms, and even banks before. They do not use a referendum to make such decisions. It is simply what responsible governments do.
