PUP READY FOR 3RD TERM
The success in the Village Council elections, the July Convention in Corozal with 10,000 strong, the Prime Minister’s successful countrywide tour, the ongoing rallies which have brought out thousands of supporters – these are all signs of the PUP re-organizing and gaining strength across Belize. So it came as no surprise when the Blue Machine roared through the streets of Belize City as 6,000 soldiers of the People’s United Party took to the streets to rally their PUP candidates on Monday January 21st that were taking part in official nominations day for the upcoming General Elections. The march started at the foot of the Swing Bridge where high-spirited Fort George and Albert Division PUP supporters converged. As the marchers wined and danced to the increasingly popular beats of PUP campaign songs with live music bands and artists Leela Vernon and Supa G who roused the spirits, the numbers of blue and white grew. At the corner with Douglas Jones, the crowd swelled even more when Caribbean Shores, Freetown and Pickstock supporters led by Pickstock drum corps jumped in the rally. As the crowd ascended on BelChina Bridge, the ground shook. The UDP office on Youth For the Future drive looked like a fading red speck swarmed by Blue. Another giant crowd of supporters from Port Loyola, Mesopotamia, Queen Square, Collet and Lake Independence waited their turn to enter the massive rally along Vernon Street. They were joined by their representatives.
Supporters in front, beside & behind PUP candidates all the way
This huge crowd of PUP supporters swarmed PUP leader Said Musa and the other nine candidates in Belize City – Mark Espat for Albert, Francis Fonseca for Freetown, Godfrey Smith for Pickstock, Oscar Ayuso for Port Loyola, Carolyn Trench-Sandiford for Collet, Anthony Sylvestre Jr. for Queen’s Square, Austin Waight for Mesopotamia, Cordel Hyde for Lake I and Jose Coye for Caribbean Shores. As the marchers neared the Elections and Boundaries office, a sea of blue covered Mahogany Street. They showed their love for the PUP and their belief for Belize. They were proud of the achievements of the PUP and honored to have participated in the overcoming of challenges and development of Belize over the last five years. At the Elections and Boundaries office, the PUP candidates entered to fill the necessary paper work, get endorsed by three voters of the constituency and make their entrance into the electoral race official. The crowd remained outside on high spirits, waiting for their respective candidates to exit to start off the official 19 day rally to victory. PUP Leader Said Musa told the supporters that the PUP is “ready for battle, ready to win again”. “Do you want an Elected Senate, do you want computers for your children, do you want salary increases, do you Believe in Belize, do you Believe in the PUP?” Said Musa asked. “YES!” was the resounding reply. The supporters were all cranked up. Port Loyola supporters embraced Oscar as he stepped out. Cordel Hyde was overwhelmed with love from Lake Independence PUPs. Carolyn was lifted up by her supporters and carried through the crowd like a true champion for Collet. The same love was spread by PUP supporters in all 31 constituencies countrywide. The support for the PUP has been massive. The PUP candidates have been working hard and they are ready to wallop the UDP in the upcoming general elections. |
