Guatemalans busted with drugs Cocaine, Crack and Cannabis

Benque Viejo police have arrested and charged two Guatemalan Nationals from Melchor de Mencos for drug-related offenses over the weekend.

The man, 34-year-old Ivan De Jesus Lopez was busted with 492 grams of cocaine and 29 grams of crack cocaine. He was charged with two counts of drug trafficking. He has since been taken to the Magistrate’s Court today where he was fined a total of $25,000 for the 492 grams of cocaine and an additional $10,000 for the 29 grams of crack cocaine, and he was also sentenced to three-year imprisonment.

Additionally, a second drug bust was carried out by police at a check point on the Arenal Road. Police say they stopped and conducted a search on a grey Nissan Taxi carrying a female passenger identified as 39-year-old Ruth Naomi Ordonez.

A woman police conducted a search of her property and discovered a black plastic bag containing 336 grams of Cannabis. Ordonez was arrested and charged with drug trafficking. She was also taken to court and fine a total of $10,000 in default three-year imprisonment. She was given up to the end of the month to pay or face jail time.
