This is the time when Christians across our Beautiful Belize and Worldwide celebrate the great hope that arrived with the birth of Christ.
We are all aware of the scripture reading in Matthew’s gospel Chapter 1 verse 21 when the Angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him that Mary “would give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
This is the great hope that is Christmas
It is this optimism that causes us at this time of the year to spread joy and cheer, to be thankful for our blessings and enjoy those Belizean traditions like black fruit cake, ham and turkey and the various cultural food and drinks.
We enjoy dressing up the house, trimming the Christmas tree, and excite our children over the arrival of Santa Claus.
But something I love the most at this holiday time are the beautiful smiles on so many of our faces at this time of year.
Even those who may be struggling and those stressed by trying to meet the many expenses at this time of year, can find some reason to smile.
Know that at this time, all Belizeans think of some way to help the many of our people who are suffering from poverty.
We should all do what we can to help those most in need not just at Christmas time but all year long and I want to lead a government that will do better at helping Belizeans improve their quality of life.
Whether it’s our promise to roll out NHI countrywide, ensuring that our elderly enjoy their golden years, providing affordable housing for our families, especially the elderly, or helping small farmers and small businesses grow or getting more of our children in school, the next PUP government will do all we can to improve the lives of everyone for we mean it when we say we are about the people, all the people.
The holiday season reinforces my belief in the goodness of our people, it strengthens my confidence in our Belizean families, in the generosity of our neighbours, and in our pastoral call to love your neighbor as yourself.
Taken together, this dis da fu we true, true Christmas,
This is what Belizean Christmas is all about.
Through it all, let’s stand together, celebrate each other and keep building a brighter future for all of us.
On behalf of the People’s United Party and from my family to yours, may joy, happiness and peace reign in our homes this holiday season and all through the New Year.
Merry Christmas everybody.
